How To Price Your Beats To Sell Online
I wrote an article on this several years ago. Ironically, the pricing structure for selling beats online still holds firm to this day.
- Nonexclusive beats will typically sell between $20 and $75
- Exclusive beats tend to run from $75 to $250.
So you’re probably wondering what makes me an authority on this issue. Well, what I can tell you, from the backend side of helping run a successful beat selling website is that you may as well label it as the standard online pricing structure if you want to make money consistently and quickly selling your beats online.
So you may ask, “what about the people selling beats for $5 and $10 online, aren’t they moving beats”. The truth is, some are but most aren’t, especially if their beats aren’t really good. But put yourself in the customer’s position. You have to think how they think. Ask yourself, “If I was a serious artist, pursuing a career in the recording industry, would I want a beat that just anyone can buy for five or ten bucks? Why would such a talented producer sell beats for so cheap, are they broke, are they desperate, or do they simply lack confidence in the value of this beat”?
Okay maybe that example was a little over the edge, but believe it or not, most serious customers have already been conditioned to lease beats starting around the $25 price range by top-selling beat makers over the years. And for more backend information, 95% of top-selling beat makers are leasing nonexclusive beats for $25-$35 each.
On the other end of the spectrum, selling beats for more than $250 online comes with a high risk for fraud and chargebacks. More than 40% of beat sales over $125 are found to be fraudulent, trigger chargebacks, or simply get refunded for other reasons. This is why several beats selling sites no longer sell exclusive beats. I won’t elaborate on this issue any further for now for the sake of educating and enabling malicious customers.
